Plumbing in a Singapore flat: what we sell, and what we don't

We are an online home improvement store, not a plumbing supplier. There is no pipe, no valves and no tapware here. What we do carry are a few items that live next to the plumbing in an HDB flat or condo, and this page tells you plainly which ones.

For the bathroom there is a suction grab bar that grips tiles with no drilling, which matters when the wall is shared or the flat is rented. For the kitchen there is peel-and-stick subway tile for the splashback behind the sink. For the service yard there is a washing machine drain pan that catches a leaking hose before it runs under the door.

Before you start a plumbing job

In Singapore, work on the water service installation must be carried out by a PUB licensed plumber. That covers anything that touches the supply pipes, the taps and the water heater connection. Fitting a grab bar, laying a splashback or sliding a pan under the washer needs no licence and no permit, which is exactly why those are the products on this page.

Why a drain pan earns its place in the service yard

Most washing machines in Singapore sit in the service yard or a kitchen corner, with the floor trap a metre or more away. A split inlet hose empties fast, and in an upper floor unit the water finds the neighbour below before it finds the trap. A pan under the machine holds the first few litres and buys you the minute you need to shut the tap.

Need something you cannot see here?

Email us. If it is a plumbing part we cannot supply, we will say so straight away. If it is close to something we stock, we will tell you what we can do.

What we actually stock today

Three things, each one close to the plumbing rather than part of it: the suction grab bar, the peel-and-stick splashback tile and the washing machine drain pan. Email theteam@homeimprovement.asia for anything else and we will tell you honestly whether we can get it.

Plumbing: your questions

Do you sell plumbing pipes, valves or taps in Singapore?

No. We are an online home improvement store, not a plumbing supplier. The items we carry near the plumbing are a suction grab bar for the bathroom, peel-and-stick splashback tile for the kitchen and a drain pan for the washing machine. For pipes and tapware, a hardware shop or your plumber is the right place.

Who is allowed to do plumbing work in Singapore?

Work on the water service installation, meaning anything connected to the supply pipes, taps or the water heater inlet, must be done by a PUB licensed plumber. Fitting a grab bar, sticking up a splashback or placing a pan under the washer involves none of that and needs no licence.

Can I use the suction grab bar in an HDB bathroom?

Yes, as long as the wall is smooth glazed tile. The suction cups need a flat surface, so keep them clear of grout lines and textured tiles. It needs no drilling, which matters if you rent or do not want to disturb the waterproofing. Check the cups regularly and use it for balance, not to hang your full weight.

Is peel-and-stick splashback tile suitable for a Singapore kitchen?

It is made for kitchens and handles heat from normal cooking, but keep it at least 10 cm from a gas burner. The adhesive needs a clean, dry wall, so wipe off any grease first and let the wall dry fully in our humidity before you press the tiles on. It wipes clean with a damp cloth.

Where does the washing machine drain pan go in a flat?

Under the machine, in the service yard or kitchen corner where it sits. Most flats have the floor trap some distance from the machine, so the pan catches a split hose or a slow drip before the water runs under the door or down to the unit below. Measure the machine footprint before ordering.
